01. Agreement to Terms
By accessing, browsing, or using the OwnYourFiles web application (“the Service”, “we”, “us”, or “our”), you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agreed to be bound by these Terms of Service (“Terms”). If you do not agree with any part of these Terms, you must immediately discontinue your use of the Service.
02. Description of Service & Local Processing
OwnYourFiles provides a client-side suite of browser utilities designed to inspect, edit, and sanitize metadata from digital files (including images, documents, audio, and video formats).
All computational tasks, binary modifications, and metadata transformations operate entirely within your local browser environment using WebAssembly (WASM). Your original files and modified payloads are never transmitted to, viewed by, or stored on our servers.
03. “As-Is” and “As-Available” Disclaimer

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED STRICTLY ON AN “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” BASIS, WITHOUT WARRANTIES OR CONDITIONS OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, STATUTORY, OR OTHERWISE. TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMISSIBLE BY APPLICABLE LAW, OWNYOURFILES EXPRESSLY DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, ACCURACY, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.
We make no representations or warranties that the Service will meet your specific operational requirements, operate error-free, be uninterrupted, or that binary modifications to any specific file format will always be free of structural defects.
04. Limitation of Liability & Mandatory Backup Requirement
You are solely and exclusively responsible for creating and maintaining complete backup copies of all files prior to loading or manipulating them through OwnYourFiles.
Under no circumstances shall OwnYourFiles, its developers, operators, contributors, or affiliates be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages arising out of or related to:
- Data loss, file corruption, or irreversible alteration of media contents.
- Incomplete or unsuccessful removal of sensitive metadata tags or location identifiers.
- Software crashes, browser tab freezing, or device memory exhaustion during heavy binary processing.
- Any decision made or action taken in reliance on data presented by the Inspector or Raw Metadata views.
05. Acceptable Use Policy
You agree not to use OwnYourFiles for any unlawful purposes or to manipulate media in violation of intellectual property rights, copyright ownership, digital forensics legal orders, or applicable privacy regulations. You agree not to attempt to disrupt or abuse the infrastructure delivering the web assets.
06. Third-Party Advertisements & External Links
OwnYourFiles may display advertisements served by third-party advertising networks, such as Google AdSense. We do not control or endorse the content, products, or services advertised. Any interactions or transactions with advertisers are strictly between you and the third-party advertiser.
07. Modifications to Terms
We reserve the right to modify or replace these Terms at our sole discretion at any time. The updated version will be indicated by the “Last Updated” date at the top of this page. Your continued use of the Service following any revisions constitutes your acceptance of the new Terms.
